Philip Besiimire has been appointed Managing Director (MD) for Vodacom Tanzania, effective 15 October 2022 and will be reporting to Diego Gutierrez, Chief Officer: International Business.
Mr Besiimire replaces Hilda Bujiku who was serving the position in an acting capacity following the departure of the previous Managing director Sitholizwe Mdlalose.
Philip joins the organization from MTN South Africa where he has been the Chief Sales, Distribution and Regional Operations Officer since 2019. He held various senior roles at MTN including Executive Regional Operations in South Africa, Chief Executive Officer in South Sudan, Chief Marketing Officer in Zambia and Chief Marketing Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer in Swaziland (Eswatini).
He has over 15 years of experience in leadership and commercial execution (marketing, consumer, enterprise and mobile financial services) working with one of the largest telco companies in Africa.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University, Kampala Uganda.
Philip brings international leadership experience and valuable knowledge to this critical role. He has an exceptional track record of growing businesses and delivering strategic transformation. His appointment reflects the ambition of the Vodacom Tanzania Board to expand our position in this sector and to continue to deliver on our social contract and purpose – leading Tanzania into the digital age and changing lives through technology.
